White label in vehicle rental: what to choose, when, and at what price?

Should you publish your catalogue under your own brand or accept the branding of the SaaS you use? A choice that changes how customers perceive your business.
In vehicle rental SaaS, white label is rarely free. Yet it is one of the most powerful ways for an independent rental business to stand out.
Here is how to decide: publish under your own domain name, or accept the supplier’s branding.
Why it matters
A consistent URL and visual identity can strengthen brand continuity. Their effect on conversion, however, depends on traffic, brand awareness and the customer journey: measure it before turning it into a figure you promise.
The three levels of white label
- Partial branding: your logo and your colours, but the URL stays the SaaS one. Low impact.
- Custom subdomain: rental.yourbrand.com. Medium impact, keeps a discreet mention of the SaaS.
- Fully custom domain: your own main URL or a dedicated domain. Maximum impact, the SaaS becomes invisible.
The real cost of white label
Many SaaS vendors charge for white label as a premium option, sometimes at the price of a higher plan, without showing the amount publicly. It signals that they know it matters to you, so they monetise it. That is legitimate, but it must be part of your ROI calculation.
To calculate the ROI, use your traffic, your starting conversion rate, your average basket and your margin. Then test the difference you actually observe: without a before and after measurement, the conversion gain remains a hypothesis.
When to choose white label
- You have (or can buy) a dedicated domain name
- You have, or want to build, a strong local reputation
- You target business customers (B2B), who filter out generic tools
- Your booking volume justifies optimising conversion
When to wait
If you are just starting out, with no track record or local reputation, partial branding is enough to validate your market. Switch on full white label once you have your first wave of loyal customers, to keep them.
The mistake to avoid
Choosing a SaaS with no white label option, thinking you will switch it on later. Moving a booking site and its URLs to a new domain is technically complex, breaks your SEO and loses you existing customers. Plan for white label from the start, even if you don’t switch it on straight away.
